During the wee hours during my MSIA trip to Brasilia I was awakened to J-R speaking during his Christmas Eve 1991 SAT seminar, “Being In Fellowship With The Lord (#7812), which I consider is as good a reference as we could find to play for his celebration this November 29 in Los Angeles, California. I experienced parts as his way of doing his eulogy (forgive the term if you don’t like it). Here are some examples I noted:
His hope that “this civilization will on day look up the works of John-Roger and say, ‘Thank You’.”
He told a couple of Hinkins’ childhood stories. One was about Delile hiding the peas under his plate to get the most dessert, Parley catching him, then Roger doing the same while they were all focused on Delile so he could get the most dessert. Then J-R saying that this was is confession that one day the Hinkins would be seeing and hearing via the recording. There’s also the story of Delile putting pieces of coal into their Christmas stockings and how that really got to J-R about his dad, and then his dad corrected him so he would realize that the coal would be there so he and Delile wouldn’t have to go out into the cold to get more coal.
J-R also told us that “next year some of you won’t be here” and gave encouragement for everyone to focus on completion while we have the opportunity now.
J-R mentioned that there was controversy about when Jesus was born such that some consider that it was actually the immaculate conception that took place on December 24th and that the birth would be on September 24th, J-R’s birthday, and then J-R forgiving himself for thinking that about himself.
J-R talked about the need for all of us to take correction and asking what is God’s business: Forgiveness. The heart does not want memory, it wants now. It wants to be held in love. J-R wants people to touch him.
A lot of Jesus as Lord and Savior, “paying with the coins in his purse.”
J-R saying, “Thank you all so much. I’m honored that were all together in this room.” He acknowledges the presence of Spirit.”
J-R states he has a prayer for us — “God strengthen them. I’m honored to be with them. Let them be fit to be a companion to walk with the Lord. Let them also be a joy to the world.”
He tells us, “I’m not waiting for the 2nd coming of the Lord.”
